Cradlepoint R1900 Router Overview
Today we will look at the Cradlepoint R1900 Ruggedized Router. This device is part of Cradlepoint’s series of Mobile routers, along with the IBR900 and IBR1700. This one comes with 5G embedded, while also supporting CAT20 4G LTE. The device comes with 4xGbE ports, but can be mounted to the Cradlepoint RX30 series managed accessory to either add an additional 4x GbE POE ports or 4xPoE ports with a modular model slot for additional cellular diversity.
The R1900 also comes with NetCloud Service for Mobile which provides streamlined configuration and continuous cloud, modem, and router software feature enhancements. In this you have Secure & Remote management, dynamic routing protocols, traffic steering and QoS, zone based firewall and VPN, out-of-band management, real time troubleshooting and diagnostics tools, Insights, Alerts & Dashboard Analytics, Modem-Data-Usage Dashboard & Predictive Alerting, Location Services, and Extensibility, supporting SDK, API and third-party integrations.
Key features include an Rs232 connector for legacy devices and serial connections. And a standard GPIO port for sensors, displays, diodes, etc. You CAN use the paddle antennas, but this device is specifically designed for external antennae.

The GPIO cable will connect to the vehicle power, either directly to the 12V or, more likely in the case of a law enforcement vehicle, through a fuse box. In some of the newer Police grade Ford explorers, there is a second battery terminal in the rear of the vehicle, where the electronics tray is often mounted with the radio kit, light bars, ICV systems like the Motorola m500 or the Axon Fleet 3, and others.
